The first stage adaptation of Dimitar Dimov’s novel “Tobacco,” beloved by generations of Bulgarians! For the adaptation, Yuri Dachev used the original, uncensored version of the novel, published in December 1951, 70 years before the premiere at the Varna Theatre.
“Tobacco” is a production like a knife pressed to the throat. The world is corroded by war. People struggle for power, money, and domination over one another. A powerful and sensual performance about an impossible love. “Tobacco” is a challenge for theatre, for the actors, for the audience, and for director Bina Haralampieva. A production in which the audience will rediscover many timely themes that connect the past and the present.

The team of the Dramatic Theatre "Stoyan Bachvarov" – Varna was awarded Varna’s highest prize, the VARNA AWARD in the field of culture for 2022, for the high professionalism in creating the production “TOBACCO” – the first stage production in Bulgaria based on the uncensored first version of Dimitar Dimov’s eponymous novel, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Varna Drama Theatre.
