“Birthday” tells the story of Vasil — an experienced thief who has just been released from prison — and Baba Genoveva, a lonely elderly woman who has lost her sense of purpose in life. A chance encounter on her birthday brings them together in an unexpected way and sets in motion a change not only for them, but also for her neighbors — Bilyana and her daughter Raya. Meanwhile, Vasil is sought out by his old friends to take part in a grand heist, which becomes a test of morality, friendship, and humanity. Beneath the comic situations and witty dialogue, the film raises questions about forgiveness, kindness, and the courage to stand up against society’s indifference.
