Dance of Death

Dance of Death — as if a final act before the approaching end, awaited as deliverance.

The clash between the characters gives rise to hatred and bitterness. Their brutality grows into the scale of war.

This struggle turns Alice and Edgar’s marriage into a battlefield where all means are permitted and victory is pursued at any cost. This leads to a distortion of the human being — one begins to lose their human traits and qualities.

A state of resentment, hatred, and bitterness taken to the extreme destroys a person — their spiritual death comes before the end of their life’s journey, and they discover the meaninglessness of their existence. This may be called a particular form of dying while still alive.

What happens to a person? What has happened to them to bring them to such bitterness? And what is this impulse that drives them to keep fighting, even after meaning has been lost?
