The stage adaptation of Ivan Vazov’s great poetic work Epic of the Forgotten is an inspiring performance about the heroes history must not forget.

The production brings Vazov’s words to life, presenting to the audience the forgotten heroes—clergymen, revolutionaries, awakeners—people who, through deeds and self-sacrifice, built Bulgaria’s national conscience. The images of Benkovski, Kocho, the Zhekov brothers, Kableshkov, Paisiy, the Miladinov brothers, Hadzhi Dimitar, Volov, Karadzhata, and the Shipka volunteers become symbols of moral purity and idealism, a stark counterpoint to today’s forgetfulness and indifference.

With a contemporary stage language, a strong visual concept, and powerful acting, the performance raises questions about memory, national identity, and every generation’s responsibility toward the past.

Epic of the Forgotten is not only a historical reenactment—it is a voice that resonates in the present with a call to remember, to honor, and to be worthy heirs of those who dedicated their lives to Bulgaria.
