The Queen of Spades

A card game or the game of fate. A game in which we long to win and to attain happiness, love, fulfillment, power. This game stirs our desires into a whirl. This is the theme explored by the creative team behind the production. Desires that slowly swell, conquer us, subjugate us, and in the end draw us into their force, only to spit us back out — disfigured and deformed likenesses of human beings. Or desires suppressed, hushed, and left unspoken out of fear and insecurity, leaving us to chew over the routine of our gray everyday lives while waiting for mystical salvation. What is man, torn between the forces of darkness and light? "The Queen of Spades" is a production about salvation and damnation, about consuming passion and false humility.

• Veselka Kunchova received the Icarus Award 2017 for the direction of "The Queen of Spades" by A. Pushkin, presented by the Guild of Creators in Puppet Art;

• Nomination for the "Sivina" award for debuting puppet actor Velizar Evtimov for the role of Count Tomsky.
