The Queen of Spades
Card game, or game of fate — the game in which we long to win and to attain happiness, love, fulfillment, power. This game stirs our desires into a frenzy. This is the theme explored by the creative team behind the production.
Desires that slowly swell, seize us, subjugate us, and in the end draw us into their vortex, only to spit us back out — disfigured and deformed likenesses of human beings. Or desires that are suppressed, concealed, left unspoken out of fear and uncertainty, leaving us to chew over the routine of our gray everyday life while waiting for mystical salvation.
What is a human being, crucified between the forces of darkness and light? The Queen of Spades is a performance about salvation and damnation, tearing passion and false humility.
