BDZ

BDZ, Be-De-Zhe...

Most likely, your first reaction when you hear “Be-De-Zhe” is to smile, my friend—thinly and dismissively. What could BDZ possibly have to do with theatre, you ask yourself.

Well, Odysseus travels by ship, Don Quixote on horseback, Jay Gatsby by car, and the other heroes who have boarded trains certainly weren’t travelling with BDZ. Here, I smile thinly and dismissively, my friend. Why? Because on BDZ, you can meet Odysseus, Don Quixote, and all the characters you’ve ever heard of.

Look—this man is travelling towards his home, having lost everything along the way, just like Odysseus. That man, meanwhile, meets his Dulcinea, disguised as a sleeping-car attendant... A woman knits, lovers part, a mother feeds her child, and sooner or later, everyone will get off. So many living worlds will detach themselves from the galaxy of the train.

And over there, my friend, there’s an alien who found himself in a compartment with an actress. And did you know that we happened to overhear that very conversation? Yes, you heard me correctly—an alien on BDZ. You don’t believe me? All right, come and see for yourself.

What will this visitor learn about human beings? Which station will the train take him to? And might he hear your story, too?

The performance incorporates documentary stories of people who have travelled with BDZ.
