“Welcome to Bulgaria 2” sketches the desires and concerns of various groups of people in contemporary Bulgaria—from the president, through the residents of small towns and villages and single women, to the man in the BMW who drives so fast and dangerously that he manages to break through the space-time continuum and find himself in 1954. With plenty of humor, self-irony, and love, authors Zdrava Kamenova and Gergana Dimitrova create a snapshot of contemporary Bulgarian reality, drawing on actual events from recent years. The unusual situations the characters go through turn their reality into a series of metaphors and draw attention to the value of disappearing solidarity, disappearing smiles, disappearing humanity, and love for one’s fellow human beings.
