“Welcome to Bulgaria 2” sketches the desires and anxieties of different groups of people in contemporary Bulgaria — from the president, through the residents of small settlements and lonely women, to the man in the BMW who drives so fast and dangerously that he manages to break through the space-time continuum and end up in 1954. With a great deal of humor, self-irony, and love, the authors Zdrava Kamenova and Gergana Dimitrova create a snapshot of contemporary Bulgarian reality, drawing on real events from recent years. The unusual situations the characters go through turn their reality into a series of metaphors and draw attention to the value of disappearing solidarity, disappearing smiles, disappearing humanity, and love for one’s neighbor. adults
