But might it not be better to question his madness and believe in his conscious suffering—from kicks, loneliness, and being lost? Don Quixote may want to save the world from villains, but no less than that, he may want to wrench this same world from its complacency, from its determination to survive and amuse itself at any cost? Who can testify that such thoughts are not groundless? No one but Sancho—the faithful companion and sole heir. The lovable fellow who is afraid of books, yet lives an enviably interesting life, as though in a chivalric romance? And who knows best just how great the jumble in our lives is: of good intentions and sobering blows, of cherished dreams and the sorrow of seeing them come true, of flights of love and the abuses that have displaced them… Our production attempts to move through this jumble.
