Long before the songs of Homer’s Iliad were gathered and written down, they were performed by ancient Greek aoidoi and rhapsodes — performers of both their own and others’ epic poetry. Homer himself composed it in exactly this way — orally, not in writing.

This production strives to do something similar: to present the Iliad in a way as close as possible to its original form as a poem meant to be spoken live before an audience. 🎤

A single turn, a leap from the present day into one of antiquity’s greatest texts and its central theme: the “destructive wrath” that “sends the souls of many heroes down to the underworld.”

Where does the soul of modern humankind go, then, when it grows angry, takes revenge, destroys, wages war, and claws tooth and nail to assert the ego and impose its own will and truth alone? 🤔
