Ancient Myth

“Orpheus” is a panopticon-like spectacle composed of monumental visual and physical tableaux—a mosaic performance combining movement theatre, mask play, puppets, and theatrical signs.

Music is an art that touches us and elevates us toward divine perfection. Music and love are gifts and powers bestowed by the gods. Love is subject even to death.

The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice evokes the themes of separation and death, and the strength and weakness of the human soul.

The Thracian Orpheus is renowned for his divine gift as an unmatched musician, singer, and poet. His image embodies the tragic conflict between strength and weakness. He dies tragically, yet with the dignity of a knight—a knight whose strength is music. His weapon and shield are his divine gift and Apollo’s golden lyre.

The performance’s musical landscape is built around the most popular themes and arias from Gluck’s opera Orpheus and Eurydice, as well as original music.

The performance conveys the idea that, although a divine creation, human beings are merely a spark of light amid the vastness of the starry sky.

We dedicate it to the 260th anniversary of the creation of Gluck’s famous Baroque opera.
