The Bat
Operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss II
Of the sixteen operettas written by Strauss, The Bat can undoubtedly be called the finest. This operetta was first performed in Vienna in 1874, and since then there has surely not been a single theatre season in which this work has not been staged—not only at the Vienna State Opera, but also at every major European music theatre. The Ruse Opera is no exception, having presented it several times throughout its history.
