MADAMA BUTTERFLY
OPERA
An opera by Giacomo Puccini Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa
The story of the little Japanese woman in love is both sad and tender — a story from the days when, at the beginning of the last century, Europe discovered the unexplained charm of the distant East, whose captivating culture includes Japan as well. It was precisely in those distant days that Madama Butterfly was born — Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece. Today, the world is more closely connected in its sense of the romantic and the tragic. The new production by the Ruse Opera will look back into the past, when these two worlds were at the beginning of their dynamic and irreversible merging.
