The play Because That’s What Mom Likes uses an exaggerated, comic lens to show us that our counterfeit lives distance us from the essential one, or from the life we long to have.
In the aristocratic house of the Gianutri family in Bergamo, the family has gathered to honor the memory of Salvatore, the youngest son of Mrs. Maria. But then a mysterious stranger arrives, revealing the lie in which everyone lives. “Does it even matter whether we are originals or copies? Do we not cry, do we not laugh, in the same way as those we would like to be? Will you ever reach the stars, and does it not matter whether you love or speak lies?”
