“One morning Gregor Samsa awoke from uneasy dreams to find himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He lay on his hard, armor-like back and, lifting his head a little, saw his brown, convex abdomen divided into stiff arched segments. The many legs, pitifully thin compared with the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes.”

The story from Franz Kafka’s novella The Metamorphosis concerns the transformation of the commercial traveler Gregor Samsa into a gigantic insect. The main theme on which the creative team behind the production focuses is lying and its presence in society today.

How does a person transform from childhood into adulthood — through society, through the workplace, through their actions? How do friendships and romantic relationships affect them? How do lies displace values within a person and change their existence? These are just some of the questions explored in Veselka Kuncheva’s original production, “THE METAMORPHOSIS.”
