PSYCHO is a whirlwind of an absurd and mercilessly funny comedy of misunderstandings, set in a psychiatric clinic.
Dr. Prentice is looking for a new secretary, but what begins as a seemingly routine interview turns into a cascade of mistaken identities, disrobing and dressing up, unexpected inspections, and situations on the verge of scandal. In a world where what is “normal” is relative, the line between doctor and patient begins to blur dangerously.
The play What the Butler Saw also has a successful film adaptation from the 1970s, which cemented its cult status and popularized Orton’s distinctive black humor, provocation, and social satire.
Author Joe Orton remains in history as one of the most radical and notorious British playwrights, whose comedies attack hypocrisy, power, and moral clichés with wit and merciless irony. Although his life ended tragically, his work continues to captivate stages around the world.
